Autonomous regions within the EU

Autonomous areas within the EU, that do not belong to the  EU VAT area,  and therefore are considered  non-EU countries: 

  • Autonomous region of Finland: 
    Åland 
  • Autonomous regions of Spain: 
    Ceuta, Melilla, The Canary Islands ((Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Gomera, El Hierro, La Palma) 
  • Autonomous regions of France: 
    French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Réunion, Saint-Martin, Mayotte, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna, French Polynesia, Saint-Barthélemy 
  • Autonomous regions of Denmark: 
    Faroe Islands, Greenland 
  • Autonomous regions of the Netherlands: 
    The Netherlands Antilles 
  • Autonomous regions of Italy: 
    Administration units of Livigno and Campione d’Italia and the part of the Lake of Lugano which belongs to Italy and which is located between the national border and the shoreline between Ponte Tresa and Porto Ceresio 
  • Autonomous regions of Germany: 
    The Island of Heligoland (Helgoland), The territory of Büsingen
